This page is a bit dated, but it's here for your reference.
A few years ago I began to get frustrated with Time Warner and their ever increasing prices for cable TV. I was paying more than $150 for a whole bunch of channels that I never watched.
So I took stock of what I really wanted to be able to watch and set out to see if I could ditch cable TV. I'm a Netflix subscriber and an Amazon Prime member. Much of my movie and video needs were met there, but then there was the issue of local TV news and the big one...sports. Sports are the bane of a cord cutters existence. (not any more)
For local TV, I researched and bought an HD antenna for my roof. I ordered the Channel Master CM-4228HD High VHF, UHF and HDTV Antenna. That allowed me to get all the local channels. NBC, CBS, ABC, PBS, Fox, the CW, and several more. Unlike older analog TV's, there's no snow or fuzzy pictures. With digital TV and HD...once you get the antenna pointed in the right direction, you get crisp clear HD TV. Period.
I signed up for SlingTV to get some of the things that I used to get on cable and watched that via my Chromecast or my Roku. I had Sling for about a year. One thing that Sling did not have was NESN. I really missed NESN. Then came the SAVIOR...
Youtube TV! Christmas Day 2017 was the turning point for me. I saw an ad on TV for Youtube TV. There was a 7 day trial, so I went for it. WOW! Not only did Youtube TV have all the local channels...WCSH6, WMTW8, WGME13....Fox23 and more....the sports....oh the sports! And the movies! And things like BBC America, TruTV, Disney, NatGeo, SyFy....and more!
What else makes it awesome? The cloud DVR! You can choose any program or show and it will record it for you. You can also choose to record all episodes of your favorite show...regardless of the channel! (I record all the Dr. Who episodes and also the Big Bang Theory) You can also schedule recordings of upcoming major events like the Royal Wedding (like I was going to get up at 3 am).
Watch it ANYWHERE! Use your computer, smartphone, AppleTV, Chromecast, Roku...and more! I recently watched the Patriots while eating a calzone at Sam's in Lewiston.
Last...You can share it with family! You can add up to 5 more people to your account. Some folks I know share it with other family members and they chip in to defray the cost!
So...now I only pay for the services I want. I pay for internet ONLY from Spectrum, Youtube TV ($35), as well as my usual services from Netflix, Amazon Prime...etc. (I paid for those even when I had cable) I'm saving a ton of money and have everything I need! Check out Youtube TV! Another service that is very popular is Fubo TV....they have the Red Sox!
UPDATE:
I no longer use Youtube TV. Not because there's anything wrong with it, I just found myself not watching it. My TCL TV comes with "Live TV" and my wife and I primarily watch Youtube and other services like Paramount+, Netflix...etc.
