Internet is a large part of our lives. Reliable internet is a must. Too often we settle for less than perfect internet simply because it's either bundled with other things or it's a big hassle to switch.
I faced this recently. I have been a Spectrum customer for many years. I've gone from crappy internet to good internet and back to crappy internet several times over the past few years. Most recently my internet connection would drop for 5 to 10 minutes a couple times a day which was VERY annoying. I made all sorts of changes to no avail. The second problem was the cost. Spectrum kept increasing the cost with no real added value. So, I began looking at other options.
My area is a bit limited in terms of what internet providers are available. I had been watching some possibilities over the past couple of years. One of those possibilities is T-Mobile Home Internet. For a while it was not available in my area even though my T-Mobile service on my Google Fi phone was pretty decent. Eventually I found that T-Mobile Home Internet was now available in my neck of the woods. So off to the store I went!
Wow! Switching was a breeze! Why? T-Mobile Home Internet is wireless! I kept my Spectrum service connected for a bit while I took the 14 days to test my new internet service. All I had to do is plug in the T-Mobile internet device and run the setup via the app on my phone. It even helped me find a good place to put it! Then I simply plugged in my Google Nest Wifi to the T-Mobile box making it so I didn't even have to change any of my devices. In less than a week I cancelled my Spectrum service and haven't regretted it at all!
PRICE: I currently pay a flat $50. That's it. No extra fees or anything. $50. My bill is literally $50 (proof is on the bottom of this page...scroll down). T-Mobile says that it'll always be $50. While that remains to be seen, I'm happy that it's a lot less than what I was paying.
SERVICE: T-Mobile has been awesome to deal with. To be honest, aside from having to call them about setting up my T-Mobile app so I could see my account details and so forth, I haven't had to call them for any technical reasons. It just works.
CONNECTION: My connection with Spectrum was pretty fast, but to be honest? I really didn't need all that speed. Speed is no good if it's not working reliably. My speed with T-Mobile is still pretty impressive. I can watch 4K video with no buffering on multiple devices...stream movies...conduct online meetings clearly...use our Facebook Portal TV to visit with family....download and upload quite quickly. Life online is good. It has been ROCK SOLID reliable!
AND IT'S PORTABLE! T-Mobile doesn't advertise this, but my home internet is now portable! I can unplug the device, put it in the van and head out on an adventure with my home internet service! No need to tether to my phone! I can have my cake and eat it too!
